Trees

There is a large range of native and introduced species including coniferous and deciduous trees of various ages. Most of deciduous ornamental trees are in the grounds and around the lake. Most of our native veteran trees are in Sailors Grove.

Butterflies and moths

Speckled Wood butterfly (Pararge aegeria) needs shade and is usually seen around trees. Here it is resting on Indian Bean tree leaves. Mother Shipton (Euclidia mi) is a spectacular day-flying moth typical in open grasslands. Most of moths are nocturnal and recorded using a moth trap with a light source.
